Hi. I have facet osteoarthritis, mild stenosis, and grade 1 spondylolisthesis at L4L5. Would these stenosis exercises also be safe for my osteoarthritis and spondylolisthesis? Thank you!!
I do some exercises. These exercises are really magical effects for spinal stenosis.
Good work. Well done 👏
Buon video , brava 😊
I have a question, Dr Furlan: do you have a video on disc height loss and bulging discs (especially in younger people)? If no, could you please make a video on that. I was under 30 when i found out i have DDD in my L4 S1 and 3+ years later, 2 bulging discs too. My doctor seems to believe the disc height loss and bulging discs are not enough to cause me such horrible back pain (of course, i also have pain in my right hip, buttocks, leg). Thank you in advance.
Spinal stenosis pain is debilitating as is all Spinal pain and fibromyalgia pain!
Thanks!first time I did all the exercises and I feel better will continue 5 times a week
Good morning Dr.Furlan.I am a man of 74 years old and I have spinal stenosis. Two years ago I have a right hip replacement. I don't think that I could do some exercises and stretches and also the stationary bike. I have also sciatica, protruding disc's and hips pain. I am waiting for your answer.I am beginning with the spinal stenosis exercises as from today. Thank you.
Thank you, Dr. I have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and my legs go numb after walking half a block in my neighbourhood. Then I sit down and get back home. I was advised to get surgery urgently. I am mid 60s. I am not in pain. I will try your exercises. Thank you so much!
I have disc bulges and herniations from c spine to lower spine along with arthritis and other things. Throwing into the mix of things is complications and more pain from fibromyalgia. Life shouldn't be this hard 😢😢
I’ve seen many exercise programmes for lumbar stenosis that are very definite about NOT doing extensions as in the cow of cat-cow. Could you explain why you think this is still ok?
Very informative and to the point. Many thanks!
Super Duper! I also shared this with my 89 yr young mom. She's still active at her club and when she's not there daily, she does chair yoga. I hope I have her 👖! I was just dx’d with severe foraminal spinal stenosis. I was at the ED all day yesterday. No pain med touched it. It was only when I got IV Robaxin and steroids did it taper off. Thank you God! Thank you too for these exercises!
❤ Seattle, WA🇺🇸
I have not seen a doctor or physio recommend the sit ups you are suggesting; quite the opposite we are advised NOT to do it. No rotation on the spine. I have spondylolisthesis, and have been through a six month formal back rehab program, and had 2 surgeries. ALL said this was a definiate no-no.
thankyou for this wonderful video. I look forward to improving my spinal stenosis. One question, will it ever go away fully
I also have sciatica pain down the back of my legs as well as stenosis in the front. Will these exercises hrlp both?
Thenks br

I've found this video to be useful for my stenosis. I have no pain, but my feet become numb after walking around a km in the morning. Just want to know about the repetitions for bilateral exercises such as dog-bird etc. When you say 8 time, is it 4×2 or 8×2? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this helpful video
dottore qualche esercizio formicolio alla gamba
Great video the best I have seen on the net . Look forward to the excercises as I have been dignosed with Spinal Stenosis.
Clams and anterior tilts YES!!!! 🙌🏻 please do these. So good for you. Side leg lifts. You don’t need to lift your leg so high, in fact lower is better. And don’t rely on momentum. Rather do smaller movements and do them slowly
OMG! No! Crunches & dead bugs. Please don’t encourage people with lower back problems or weak glutes (core cause of lower back injuries) to do dead bugs. Crunches have been eliminated from the resistance/pilates/yoga/mobility community because of the damage it does to peoples necks
No no no … as a Pilates and yoga teacher, the bird / dog is one of the most common movements I see people doing wrong. They don’t have enough strength and arch their back. Which even hurts me. And I’ve been teaching for 20 years
Dr Furlan, I don’t have stenosis but I came across this video looking for lumbar pain stretches. I’ve injured myself doing some funky, spicy yoga extensions and backbends in an advanced yoga teacher retreat — and really pushing myself. I’ve never had any kind of back pain before in my life. I don’t know how people manage because I want cry from pain. This was a great video. By far the most informative. I’ve watched at least 35 videos.
P.S the prayer stretch is gentler if you widen your legs a bit. i.e. keep your feet together and widen your knees a bit so your belly, chest and head are between your legs (child’s pose – a restorative pose that calms the autonomic system)

I was diagnosed with Lumbar spondylisis. It was worst at L4/L5 where there is compression of the thecal sac and crowding of the cauda equina. There is contact with both L5 nerve roots. What is the exercise I could do. Can I continue to quat. Thanks

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis 20 years ago. I am 63 and four months ago was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I have a lot of pain in hip/low back region with pain radiating into legs. I am going to begin this series of exercise and strengthening to relieve some discomfort. I am very active in my life and am struggling throughout my day at this point. Thank you for sharing this information.😊
