  1. There are various forms of yoga practices. Hatha is the traditional practices of asanas and pranayama. Rest are new inventions and sometimes vigorous to make it more commercial. Such yoga can harm people.

  2. I respect functional patterns form of workout. But you cant compare yoga with functional patterns. I have benefited through yoga in many ways.
I am from India and here I never heard anyone having body aches post yoga. Kudos to functional patterns but dont disrespect yoga. Practicing yoga is a healing. If anyone Practice with too much physical then they are not practising yoga.

    More power to you ❤

  3. I have done some sessions with a functional patterns trainer. Some elements are good and I am sure it works for some people, but it only seems to be supported by anecdotal evidence (not research by reputed scientists) and the trainers also give some strange diet advice (eating grains is bad for you). Yoga has its strengths and weaknesses but I don't think FP has the evidence base to claim it is better at present

  4. In the western world where yoga has been reduced to stretching this makes sense. Yoga was a wholistic spiritual practice going back tens of thousands of years. Western "yoga" is not yoga. Often taught by poorly qualified "teachers" not physical therapists. Its sad that the essence of the original practice had been lost. If your reason for exploring "yoga" was physical fitness alone then you are probably better off going with a system where the primary goal is practical physical fitness.

  5. What I see is people who have preexisting neuromuscular and muscularskeletal problems (e.g. hypermobility, EDS, poor proprioception, low strength, no oblique sling power, chronic pain from unresolved injuries, lack of confidence) often turn to yoga simply because its the only form of group exercise they feel they can do as it can be gentle and relaxing compared to trying to do circuit training or suchlike. Of course, Exercise Yoga is not designed to address any of these issues, it is more intended as a pathway to spiritual pursuits (I.e. 'true' Yoga). So, rather than suggesting that exercise yoga causes these issues, I think there is a kind of selection bias at work. What needs to happen is a regular properly regulated overhaul of the fitness industry to make sure that the training syllabus for fitness instructors (Inc. Exercise yoga teachers etc.) remains relevant considering what we know today about how the human body should work. It's OK to hide behind tradition and lore when it comes to ancient spiritual teachings of true Yoga, but Exercise Yoga is not true Yoga and could be made better if it was updated to reflect current best practice as regards movement and oblique sling work – things we know today are required for a healthy body. You can still be mindful and even spiritual doing low intensity functional exercise, Shaolin Kung Fu Monks have been doing it since the Middle Ages!

  6. I wonder what kind of yoga she was doing….however, as a yoga therapist and PT student, I can totally imagine this happening! There are so many different "styles" out there, classes are ofter taught with very little modern functional anatomy knowledge, already hypermobile people are stretching themselves into the ground, yoga postures are often taught as a "panacea" for all sorts of ailments, and the strangest myths are kept alive. More functional anatomy training in yoga teacher training would be helpful!

  7. FP is so revolutionary. FP is kind of like the Naturopathy and Terrain theory of the world of Medicine; it's highly effective and consistent with nature and biology, yet, it's suppressed a kept hidden from the public because it doesn't serve the open-looped market system!

  8. I’ve done Yoga and it gave me lots of great benefits ❤ I love it! I feel so relaxed after Yoga. My whole nervous system becomes so chilled and calm. And I have great flexibility and live pain free ❤😊
