The main benefit we want to get out of a squat in pregnancy is to relax the pelvic floor muscles and create space and mobility in the pelvis. When we are struggling in a squat, we tend to hold our breath and hold a lot of tension in the pelvic floor muscles. This completely takes away any benefit in terms of
preparing for labor, and in fact can make things worse.
The truth is, we are not used to squating in our culture, it’s very hard for us to do properly. Using a yoga block to support the pose in pregnancy is a smart way to get all of the benefits of the pose without the struggle.
Working with pelvis in pregnancy is important and also a bit tricky. Its vital that you are learning these techniques from someone who understands pregnancy and the pelvis.
