This May, we experience two full Moons. The first, the flower moon, occurred on May 1 in the sign of Scorpio. The second, at the end of the month, is a rare blue Moon that falls on the full Moon in Sagittarius. Full Moons show us what is normally hidden. In the light of the illuminated Moon, we can see further into ourselves and those around us. We can understand things from a different perspective. And with this enhanced awareness, we can more easily release what no longer aligns with us.
The Moon will not actually be blue. Instead, it’s named for the rare experience of two full Moons in a single month. Still, expect the full Moon in Sagittarius to bring even more magic, serendipity, and revelations than usual.
When is the Full Moon in Sagittarius?
The Blue Moon takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 1:46 am PST.
What the Full Moon in Sagittarius Means
Full Moons occur from an opposition of the Sun and the Moon with the Earth situated in between these two luminaries. This opposition feels intense, as it brings out places we need to shift to change our vibration. Yet the full Moon allows us to understand ourselves more fully and see what needs attention in our frequency.
Each full Moon is themed by the zodiac constellation in which it is positioned and brings us an opportunity to shift our vibration in a very specific way. Each full Moon brings its own set of vibrations. The full Moon in Sagittarius reveals different energies within us compared to the full Moon in Scorpio or Aries. As we journey from one full Moon to another, through the astrological signs, we touch on every aspect of our life and personality. It is as if we are presented with a blueprint to shift our vibration, one full Moon at a time.
The blue Moon brings us an extra dose of magic. Although a blue Moon is not actually blue, the symbology of the color endures during the full Moon in Sagittarius. Blue is the color of communication. Blue Moons can shed light on how we communicate with ourselves and others. They ask us if we are speaking our most powerful truths or suppressing our authentic voice. The rarity of the blue Moon and its power to connect us to our voices give it a greater ability to lower the veil between the conscious and the subconscious minds. We can communicate with our unconscious thoughts, patterns, and feelings on a more intimate level during a blue Moon. It is a time to access the energies that lie dormant within us that are asking to be seen and heard.
Sagittarius is the seeker of truth. It is the sign that compels us to ask the bigger questions about our lives and beliefs. Under the full Moon in Sagittarius, connection to our truth becomes even more potent. Here we are invited not only to speak our truth but to discover it. The combination of the blue Moon’s ability to open the channels of communication between our conscious and subconscious minds and Sagittarius’s need to search for higher meaning creates a powerful opening.
Pay attention to what surfaces this day. You might receive insights that feel like they come from a place beyond your everyday awareness. The truths that emerge under this Moon have the potential to expand your understanding of yourself and the path you are walking.
This is also a time to look at what truths you have been avoiding. The full Moon has an ability to illuminate what we normally keep in the dark. With Sagittarius guiding this energy, the truths that surface could be connected to your beliefs, your sense of purpose, or your life’s direction. These are not small revelations. These are the kind of awarenesses that can shift the way you see everything. Allow yourself to be open to receiving them.
Let the blue Moon remind you that the Universe communicates with you in many ways, and on this night, the volume is turned up. Listen closely, speak honestly, and trust that whatever is revealed is exactly what you need to move forward.
This full Moon in Sagittarius also brings an opportunity that rarely comes around. It is time to take a quantum leap into the unknown. Not a small, calculated step. Not a carefully planned move where you can see every inch of ground ahead of you. A leap. The kind where your feet leave the earth and for a moment you are suspended in midair, trusting that you will land somewhere new and extraordinary.
Sagittarius teaches you that you are always capable of catching yourself. No matter how far you leap, no matter how unfamiliar the terrain, you have everything within you to find your footing. You always have and you always will. Think about every time in your life when you took a chance without knowing the outcome. Think about the moments when you said yes before you felt ready, when you followed a pull in your gut even though your mind was screaming to stay put. You survived every single one of those moments.
You more than survived these moments, you grew from them. You became who you are because of them. Sagittarius wants you to remember this. You have evidence in your own life that you are capable of leaping and landing. The question is not whether you can handle it. The question is whether you are willing to trust yourself enough to try.
This full Moon in Sagittarius is here to release the part of you that believes you need to see the whole staircase before you take the first step. It is here to dissolve the illusion that safety comes from staying still. Real safety comes from knowing yourself deeply enough to trust that you can navigate whatever comes. It comes from your ability to find the higher meaning in each experience, to learn the lesson, and to keep going. Sagittarius teaches that there is no wrong turn on this journey. There are only new roads that deliver new wisdom.
Sagittarius also represents hope. It compels you to take leaps of faith and trust that the best will unfold. This energy helps you focus on the good in your life and, through that attention, cultivate more positive vibrations. This energy dares you to take a chance, even when you cannot see the outcome. Sagittarius teaches you that you can always find the higher meaning in any situation, even those that do not go according to plan. You do not need to take the familiar road out of fear of the unknown.
This is also a day to look for signs and serendipities. Sagittarius brings us messages from the Universe. Pay attention to coincidences, unusual encounters, or repeated numbers. Especially on the full Moon in Sagittarius, the signs can arrive more loudly and more frequently than usual. These can be guiding you toward your highest path.
The full Moon in Sagittarius is a time to acknowledge where you are making fear-based decisions. It is a time to become aware of the routines and ruts you have formed to cling to the familiar. It is also a time to face your fears of the unknown and take the kind of leap that genuinely changes the trajectory of your life.
Over this full Moon, remind yourself that the Universe is always looking out for you and ask yourself how you can shake things up in a meaningful way. Step out of your comfort zone. Align with the energy of hope. Heal the part of yourself that is scared of the unknown. Acknowledge your fears when they come and learn from them, but do not let them run the show.
What the Full Moon in Sagittarius and Sun in Gemini Mean
Of all the opposing signs, Sagittarius and Gemini are the most similar. They each ask us to be curious, broaden our perspectives, and connect with others in order to learn and unlearn. As the Sun sits in Gemini and the Moon sits in Sagittarius, we are working with both of these signs. As these two oppose each other for the full Moon, we are given the opportunity to walk away from Gemini’s and Sagittarius’s lower vibrations and embrace the higher ones.
Gemini governs our communication, such as when we are exchanging information and connecting with the world around us. When we align with the higher vibrations of Gemini, we remain open-minded and curious. We understand that our knowledge is limited and that everyone is our teacher. Gemini helps us expand our perspective and consider things from different viewpoints and mindsets. Gemini’s highest vibrations are that of a researcher: inquisitive, nonjudgmental, and open to all possibilities.
When we align with the opportunities Gemini presents, we become fascinated by the world around us, desiring to know everything we can about its mysteries. Gemini moves quickly and allows us to immediately scan an environment, a project, or even a conversation for details. We become the observer, which in turn makes us less reactive to our own emotions.
Gemini’s high side allows us to detach from our emotions while remaining present with them. When we are less reactive to our feelings, they lose the power to control us, becoming merely information. This nonreactive state allows us to continue learning without closing our minds due to fear, misunderstanding, or anxiety.
It also allows us to receive messages from the Universe. When we are open to different forms of communication, we open ourselves to receiving signs from the world around us. On this Blue Moon especially, Gemini’s energy can help us receive the messages we need before we take that quantum leap forward.
Gemini’s low, or shadow, side includes judgment, close-mindedness, and ungrounded energy. When we align with this side, our nervous energy takes over and we become fearful of the world around us. The mind races from one thought to another, with nothing to center it. We react to our emotions either with anxiety or by numbing ourselves so we feel nothing at all. In this state, we cannot correctly process our feelings, and they create disturbances behind the scenes.
To control the anxiety, we overanalyze and overthink everything. We inundate ourselves and the people around us with questions while we look for answers. We ignore intuition and insist that logic is the only way. We disconnect from universal wisdom and our inner knowledge, making it nearly impossible to hear the guidance that is always available to us.
If you find yourself aligning with the lower frequencies of Gemini, ground yourself through your breath and body. Practice some yoga or other movement to connect with your physical energy and get yourself out of your head. Try to feel your emotions, even if they scare you. Rely on the communication Gemini offers to journal, talk to a friend, or simply listen as someone talks to you.
Feel your intuition guiding you and trust that all the answers you need in the moment will easily come to you. You do not need to worry about the future or try to control it. You simply need to remain open to communicating with yourself and the world around you in the present moment.
Sagittarius, much like Gemini, encourages us to explore. When we align with its higher vibration, we seek expansion. We search the world for new insights and perspectives. We absorb information and seek to integrate it with what we already know. We trust that everything will work out how it is meant to, even in the face of adversity.
This side of Sagittarius shows us the infinite potential of our consciousness and encourages us to expand it with every opportunity. In this frequency, we become open to receiving new truths and taking leaps of faith. Life becomes an evolving experience where there are no failures, no wrong turns, and no mistakes. There are just new realities to encounter.
Sagittarius also has a low side. In its shadow, it loses faith. We lose trust in ourselves, our paths, even the Universe. We question the meaning of our existence and fall into a spiral of contemplation that prevents us from moving forward. We expect disappointment. Fear-based decisions control us and we assume worst-case scenarios. If you find yourself here, take even the smallest step forward into something new. Remind yourself of the higher meaning of your life and focus on the positive, even if it is hard to find.
Another shadow of Sagittarius is self-righteousness and judgment. When we align with this side, we assume our experiences have made us more knowledgeable than those around us. If this surfaces, try on a different viewpoint. Challenge yourself to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
Know that it is okay to hold lower vibrations at times. We all do. Becoming aware of them changes everything. Take the opportunity on the full Moon in Sagittarius to notice any of these patterns, then allow yourself to shift them to something higher. It can feel uncomfortable, but know that the new frequencies you cultivate will eventually feel like home.
Other Astrological Influences Affecting the Full Moon
Each full Moon brings unique vibrations shaped by the aspects formed by planets with the Sun and Moon. What stands out most about this blue Moon is how supported it is by each of these luminaries in harmonious aspects to the same three planets—Saturn in Aries, Neptune in Aries, and Pluto in Aquarius.
The Moon trines Saturn in Aries while the Sun sextiles it. Saturn is the planet of structure, commitment, and discipline. In Aries, it is asking us to build new foundations and take responsibility for the direction of our lives. Saturn entered Aries in February, and its presence there is still full of momentum. This is not reckless energy. The structures you need to hold your next chapter are already being built. If you have been waiting for a sign that your leap is safe, this is it. Saturn does not support what is flimsy or fleeting. Trust the foundation forming beneath your feet, even if you cannot see all of it yet.
The Moon sextiles Pluto in Aquarius while the Sun trines it. Pluto is the planet of transformation, helping us heal from our past and see our experiences against the larger backdrop of our soul’s evolution. In Aquarius, Pluto is transforming how we show up in the collective and helping us release what prevents us from fully stepping into our power. Look at what is holding you back. Is there an old wound, belief, or identity that has outworn its usefulness? Find the lesson within it, see it as part of your evolution, and free yourself to walk into an expanded future.
The Moon trines Neptune in Aries while the Sun forms a sextile. Neptune entered Aries in January for the first time since the 1860s, awakening a new kind of spiritual courage and asking us to lead our spiritual lives from inner authority rather than looking outside ourselves for answers. When Neptune connects with both luminaries, it heightens intuition and opens channels between you and the Universe. Pay attention to what comes through in dreams, synchronicities, or sudden flashes of knowing. This is not passive energy. It is the energy of a spiritual warrior who trusts their inner guidance enough to act on it.
The final major influence is Uranus in Gemini. The Sun sits conjunct Uranus while the Moon opposes it. This is the wild card energy of the day, bringing sudden change, breakthroughs, and liberation. New information that shifts your perspective entirely could surface. There could be an emotional charge to these revelations, a restless, electric feeling that something is about to shift. Uranus is here to accelerate your quantum leap and free you from patterns no longer aligned with who you are becoming. Trust the timing. It is exactly right.
Your Invitation
Full Moons are powerful times for release. It is always up to you to decide what you want to shift, although the full Moon in Sagittarius is a powerful time to face and transform your fear.
Fear is an interesting emotion. It serves us well during crucial times of our lives but also blocks our growth when it governs every decision. Fear has a way of existing in the physical, emotional, and energetic body. Although it is sometimes at the forefront of our minds, fear also subconsciously changes our perceptions and behavior. Yet fear always has something to teach us. When you embrace fear, or at least try to understand it, you can take away any power it holds over you. It can bring us wisdom and help us understand ourselves on a more intimate level.
When feeling fear, ask yourself if it is truly warranted. Is there a genuine threat to your well being or is the fear misplaced? Explore the distinction between the fear that is essential to keep you safe and the fear that is simply blocking your evolution or preventing you from following your intuition.
The Sagittarius full Moon has the power to help you understand which fears need to stay and which ones should go. It also opens the door to believing the best can happen. We spend so much of our time “what if-ing” and envisioning the worst case scenario. This catastrophic thinking blocks our ability to recognize best case scenarios. Worrying does not help you in any way. It might feel like you are preparing for different scenarios or controlling future outcomes, but you are just depleting your energy. The best way to prepare for the unknown is to stay fully present.
When you remain present, you retain your full energy and attention and can respond to anything life hands you. Consider what your quantum leap looks like right now. Maybe it is a move to a new place, a new career path, a conversation you have been avoiding, or a dream you have been keeping to yourself. Maybe it is releasing a version of yourself that has outgrown you or stepping into a version of yourself that feels exciting and terrifying at the same time. You do not need permission from anyone else. You do not need every detail figured out. You just need to trust yourself. Take the leap. Trust the landing. You have always been able to catch yourself and this time is no different.
Fear will always come, but you do not have to let it change your course of action or deter your plans. You simply need to acknowledge it, listen to it, and move it out of your body. Through facing your fear, you begin to control it and your life’s course.
